5 Books that Changed My Life
Hi everyone, it’s been a while since I blogged about books. I love reading, I always have but I am not as regular my reading these days. I do not want to say I am busy, I just think I need to be a bit more disciplined with my time. It is ironic that after making this statement, I am going to talk about inspirational books; 5 books that changed my life.
They have made me more focused, better manager of time (which can be improved further) and a go-getter. I was a dreamer, I still am but these books have given me strength. After learning from these books, I now believe in myself that I have the power and talent to make my dreams come true. I can go on and on about how these 5 books have taken me from being just a dreamer to an entrepreneur. But I will stop. All I can say is that these books have changed a million lives including mine and I hope you too find what you need from these books and make your wildest dreams come true!
1. The Success Principles by Jack Canfield
I am a huge fan of Jack Canfield and his work. He has authored and co-authored so many books (popular and bestsellers) that I cannot even keep tabs on all of them. In case you do not know, he is the co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul books. Out of all of his works I have read, I find that The Success Principles book is the most complete work in itself. All of his books bring a lot of ideas to live a fulfilling life but I think the 50 principles in this book are all anyone needs to implement in their life to get astounding results. The first chapter itself made such a huge difference in my life that I believe if someone is willing to implement just that one principle in their lives, then this is it!
2. Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins
Out of all the books I have mentioned in this list, Awaken the Giant Within – Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny is the first one I read. It is written in an era when life was very different, I was a preteen but the principles and tips given in this book are evergreen. They will stand the test of time even in the years and decades to come. One of my favorite tips to apply to my life from this book is the principle of leveraging – Imagining the amount of pain/loss because of a bad habits/decision compared to the fruits of being disciplined. It has helped me get control of my health and also helped me make better decisions about time management. The second favorite thing is NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) that I learnt from this book. Tony Robbins has written a few other books and is a sought-after motivational speaker. I like watching his videos too, he has amazing energy!
3. The Magic of Thinking Big By David J. Schwartz
Do you dream fearlessly? Do you spread your wings completely when you imagine your dream life? If you are anything like me, you are afraid of dreaming of a big future. Whenever you are visualizing your future, you think about what you want but there is still a small part of you saying that is not going to happen for you. But as they say, reach for the moon and you’ll land amongst the stars. But what if you do not even let yourself dream openly, how can you ever reach you potential? The Magic of Thinking Big – Set Your Goals High…then Exceed Them led me to dream fearlessly and believe that I can realize my dreams. I have done a detailed review of The Magic of Thinking Big book on the blog.
4. No Excuses by Brian Tracy
One of my cousins, who is successful in life – in terms of work and family in my opinion, recommended this book to me. Actually I am one of those people who love taking book recommendations. I was visiting him one day and casually asked him which book brought the biggest change in this life and in the blink of an eye he said – No Excuses. I must be honest, I bought it within a week of meeting him (since I trust and respect him so much). And this book No Excuses – The Power of Self-Discipline 21 Ways to Achieve Lasting Happiness and Success has changed my life too. Life happens on a daily basis so I need to apply the principles from this book every single day. There are no shortcuts. But it has given me astounding results. I feel more energetic and productive now, I just do not let myself make excuses. This book is amazing!
5. The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss
I started blogging just as a hobby. I would not say that I did not know that one can make money online through blogs but I thought I could not do it (that is the self-esteem I had at the time). It took me almost a year to get a grab on blogging. I am still learning but the first year was an uphill battle. It didn’t help that I had no entrepreneur genes in me. The 4-Hour Workweek – Escape 9 to 5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich. After reading this book, there was a blast in my brain and it has not returned back to its dimensions (ha!) The author, Timothy Ferris, gives plenty of ideas to be an online entrepreneur, in addition to some glimpses of his life doing the same. Of course I have way more than 4 hours workweek right now and earn way less than what many people are making online but I know I am on the right track. This is the book that has made me a real online entrepreneur!
