Recently I felt like I had been trying out a few Korean brands a lot over the past few months so I decided to switch things up a little and try out something new. It worked out perfectly for me as I planned it in a way to incorporate into my ongoing April A to Z Blogging Challenge. The brand that I tried is VDL and I have never tried any of their products. And before stepping into their store, I only knew that their most famous products is their range of Lip Cube (Lip sticks in a cuboid form)! I had no idea what to expect and I did not do any more resarch to let myself try and choose things based on how they look and feel. As a beauty blogger, I feel like I need to go out and try new things rather than always sticking with the bestsellers or products recommended by others. I ended up buying only a couple of products!
* The haul is coming a little late as I wanted to feature it on the day of letter V of the April A to Z blogging challenge.
VDL makeup haul:
- VDL Expert Color Lip Cube (Velvet Intense) – 601 Baby’s Poppies
- VDL Festival Shadow – 308 Sparkle Aurora
- Gift with purchase – VDL Botanique Spa Therapy Steam Towel
The first thing I noticed when I entered the VDL store in Seohyeon was that the prices (I am cheapo!). Since I had only heard about the Lip Cubes, I checked out the shade selection there. Each one costs 20000 KRW (20$)! I think the price is too high but I still bought it to try out, sad thing I missed the sale (which apparently finished a couple of days before I decided to buy their stuff). Anyway.
There are two ranges in Lip Cube category:
- VDL Expert Color Lip Cube
- VDL Expert Color Lip Cube (Guylain)
I have no idea what the difference is, except for the packaging, as I could not get information from the SA or find it on the VDL English website. I ended up trying the VDL Expert Color Lip Cube (SPF10) lipsticks and picked up 601 Babies Poppies which is a warm coral shade. Since I was investing 20$ I bought a color I thought I would use a lot.
Fun Fact: VDL stands for ‘Violet Dream Luminous’ and comes under the LG umbrella! It was released 2 years ago.
I also checked out their eyeshadows and picked up a color that looked Radiant Orchid in the packaging. I must have mixed up or the lighting must have confused me because the color that I picked from their Festival shadow line, 308 Sparkle Aurora, is very much of a cool pink glitter-y shade. And it not just a pressed eyeshadow, it feels like a pressed pigment to me. Very Sparkly and crumbly. I have only swatched it a few times but have not used it on my lids so I will use it before reviewing it and let you know if it is any good!
Most Korean brands give a lot of free samples with purchase but despite some 29$ of shopping, I only got a “Steam Towel” which does not feel anything more than a wash cloth to me. I was expecting a few samples to try out other products but that’s ok. If I end up liking both of these products I may go back, otherwise I will stay away from the brand as it is expensive. And the products do not look ground breakingly impressive (yet) to me!
What do you think about the brand VDL? Which your favorite Korean cosmetic brand?
