Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks are my favorite range of drugstore lipsticks. I already have a few all time favorites and I love the formula of these lipsticks. All of the shades that I have tried in the last few years have worked really well for me and I always appreciate their shade selection. So whenever Maybelline launches a new formula or line in the Color Sensational category, I always check out the shades. And since they are affordable too, I usually buy my favorite ones instantly! I came across the Pink Alert lipsticks a little later than everyone else in the blogging community because of availability issues in Seoul, where I am based at the moment. But I swatched all of the 4 shades the day I saw these on display. Check out my Maybelline Pink Alert swatches post. I chose POW4 out of the 4 because it looked the boldest and closest to coral when compared to other Pink Alert lipsticks. I have been wearing it since the appearance of Cherry Blossoms marking the beginning of spring and I am ready to share my review!
Product: Maybelline Color Sensational Pink Alert POW4
Claim: Vivid color pigments and enriched with honey nectar a sensational effect and creamier feel!
Price: 15000 KRW* (15$ ~ 800 INR)
*Not exactly ‘affordable’ in Korea but I bought it because I love Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks.
Review: One of the most interesting features of POW4 is that it has neon undertones and looks really vivid in light. It looks more coral in the sunlight and more pink indoors. I think all the Pink Alert lipsticks are rich in color and should come with a warning – Not for the weak-hearted! But I really love the fact that more unique and fun colors are hitting the Indian market now. We have had enough of muted pinks, neutrals or browns and we now need neons, corals, orange in our life!
The packaging shape is the usual Maybelline Color Sensational plastic cap on silver twist up with color code at the bottom but all the Pink Alert lipsticks have a translucent pink plastic cap. So if you have many Color Sensational lipsticks, you can easily identify the Pink Alert lipsticks. But if you have all 4 Pink Alert lipsticks, you may have to read the label to distinguish between the 4 (not a huge inconvenience, just sayin’).
POW4 is creamy and easy to apply like most Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks. It sets to a semi-matte finish on my lips (I have dry lips) but does not seem to dry out my lips at all. It has a good staying power, I think it stayed very well for upto 3.5 hours and faded beautifully. However, it does no leave a stain behind and is easy to remove with any makeup cleanser.
The color is very buildable. You can apply with a brush for a more daytime appropriate look. I swipe it 3 times to have the color full-on. I am a daredevil! If I am doing something, I might as well be committed. I am wearing the lipstick with full intensity (without any gloss on top) in the photo. You can sheer it out by topping it up with a light colored gloss, or wipe a little with a tissue or pair it with a pink lipliner to bring out the pink more or wear a warm toned (orange) lipliner to bring out the coral! The ways are endless but why waste a unique beautiful shade by making it look like any other “normal” pink?
So I’ll say,” Go for it!”

Maybelline says Pink is not just Pink and I totally agree but I would go on to say that if you are a fan of Pinks and Corals, you have good chance to find your own pink – POW4 is “Mera Wala Pink”. POW4 is pink, vibrant and bold – just what I want on the days I do not want to do a lot of makeup but make a bold statement without much effort! I should admit that POW4 may not cater to a wide range of skintones. Despite not being very fair, I still choose to wear it. After all it is all about the attitude 😉
